Queen of the Rock

i am not a queen & i felt extremely uncomfortable taking pictures atop a rock.

one thing i have noticed about my school is that people are borderline obsessed with defining who they are based on quizzes and psychological terms. introvert, extrovert, outgoing introvert, IFPG ZXHD... you name it.  this stuff scares me; i know for a fact that an internet test, cannot tell me who i am, no matter who created it.  for some people personality identification helps but for me it wrecks my identity.  people need to exist in self and embrace the natural state of being, rooted in Christ.  when people start relying on letters and words define them, identity becomes generated.  identity is unique and that is the beauty of such a diverse world.  take these tests and if you like what they say embrace it! just don't become confined to what it tells you, you are.  you know & God knows--that's important.

my nice friend, baylee. and a nice view too

today i felt very Julia Roberts in My Best Friends Wedding, 100% thrifted too!~!
i wore a patterned sun dress with an exceedingly large sweater over top, black ankle boots & thick grey socks with silver accessories.
enjoy!

Thankful for Third Man

black Friday is an excuse to go out and buy a bunch of stuff that people think is really cheap but really it's like 10% off.  however, my black Friday was probably more exciting than most because i got to go to the grand opening of Third Man Records Cass Corridor in Detroit. mom and i waited in the rain for 3 hours and it was so, so good because i eventually got in, saw Jack White in the flesh and was able to cop a limited edition poster that is stunning.
to be a part of something so legendary will be a memory i hold special forever.
cherish those little memories because those memories will turn into stories you tell for years.
& when you wait in line for hours STAY IN LINE because if you leave you may never see your favorite artist in your favorite place.

then i hopped in a car to road trip to a random motel in Indiana with some of my favorite ladies to go to a bridal shower.  small town adventures are good too.

Jesus Loving Feminist

the other day i was listening to a podcast, my newest obsession, by Lena Dunham that discusses feminist views and living life as a woman.  this particular episode was on body image and it was a great listen; however, as i was listening to the women of different backgrounds, from a transgender to a blind woman, speaking on the show i thought to myself, "where's the christian woman?"  so much of what was said on the podcast was encouraging, inspiring and could appeal greatly to all women facing different challenges with their body image but there was no one representing a Christian world view.  my heart broke for young girls today because they don't get to see a woman in popular culture saying it's ok to keep your virginity sacred, that you don't have to experiment with your sexual identity to be confident  and you don't have to mess with drugs and alcohol to find your true self.  all voices need to be heard but sometimes you have to scream for people to notice and it looks like us Jesus loving feminists need to stand on mountains and atop builidngs for people to hear us and appreciate what we have to say.

so let me say...

be who you are, be independent, be strong-willed, break boundaries, change the world and love Jesus

i am a feminist and i love Jesus
i will fight for equality, i will embrace independence and i will celebrate my femininity all with Jesus Christ directing my steps

now on a different note
today i wore a "found" grey turtleneck with a thrifted denim button-up over top, black Forever 21 trousers and Vera Wang booties
accessorized with gold, baby hoops and a leopard print gold watch

Life

i'd much rather pull an all-nighter and go on mini road trips to a cute coffee shop with good music than be studious, study and go to bed early.  i found this guy, Sam Burchfield, on my Spotify Discover playlist then realized he was going to play about an hour away from school so i was like hey what the heck...LET'S DO IT.  his voice was full of soul and the band was banging.  now i find myself at 2:07 in the morning listening to a documentary and blogging because, well, college.
but i wouldn't want to do life any other way.
"the three grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for." -- Alexander Chalmers

today i wore a hand-me-down Forever 21 sweater, borrowed ripped American Eagle jeans and on-sale Gap sandals.and the half up, half down bun never fails.

Friday Eve

Henry David Thoreau is my favorite writer ever.  i started reading him in a class this week and he has such beautiful and elegant language.  if you ever get a chance to read his compilation of essays, Walden, DO IT you will be pleased.  reading is a lot better than you think it is.
"nay, be a Columbus to whole new continents and worlds within you, opening new channels, not of trade, but of thought."
challenge your mind and live life
i love wearing dresses, because they're so stylish yeah? no, well they are but it's because they're the most freeing thing you can wear. freedom=dresses
happy friday eve

yeah we're breakin' free

self expression is necessary. sometimes that means breaking down the walls of your comfort zone to let the world know who you really are and what you are made of.
i express myself through clothes and today i went a little out of my zone. i was nervous at first which may seem dumb because it's just clothes right? WRONG at least to me. clothes are my identity in a completely normal and healthy way and trying something new is scary and exciting.  so do that scary thing you love
break free (HSM anyone) of who you "should" be and just be
make your own standards and embrace your beuatiful mind and all of its different passions
(but stay pure and love God in what you do--always)
