Shoes Over Bros

I love shoes, an honest love.  The beauty of shoes is that they can define an outfit!  Swapping pumps for high tops when wearing jeans and a white tee changes the look but keeps it fashionable.  Shoes can flip an outfit, it's like the have magic powers or something. Today my outfit could have just been an average outfit, nothing special but since I added some funky cutout leopard oxfords, the outfit was immediately spiced up. Holllaaa. Never doubt the power of a good shoe.
 I wore a red peplum top & black trousers by Forever 21, a gifted statement necklace & leopard cutout oxfords from Plndr. {fun fact , these shoes are a whole size too big but they were the only ones left, I can never let anything pass me by it's kind of a problem}

Early Bird

Today I woke up fairly early to hit up the thrift store with my mom. Yay! The earlier you go the better because then you get the first crop, not looked over and ignored clothes. This one I go to never fails, it always has such quality clothes. I've learned over the years of thrifting that if you are looking for a certain style of clothing, look at different demographics of the locations of the stores.  For example,  if you want nice, high fashion clothes, going to a thrift store in a higher-end neighborhood will give the best results.  Also different thrift stores sell differently. Independent consignment shops are typically more expensive & rightly so because they have nicer clothes with brands to match.  Second hand stores such as Salvation Army & Goodwill are a tier down; they aren't expensive by any means but you can find better deals elsewhere. Where I suggest is Value World. Their clothes are ridiculously wallet-friendly, they're everywhere and they have got some great goods!  That is where I went today, I purchased:
Pineapple bookends. I go them for my dorm room next year. They are sturdy and super cool.
A Target sundress. Next year I'm going down south for school and the school is Christian and has a dress code, not a super strict one but I figured if I just wear dresses all the time I won't run into any issues.
White Ralph Lauren Capri pants. Don't worry, I'm not planning as wearing them as is, I hope to either make them into shorts or work them into boyfriend jeans.
High waisted shorts w/ embellishments. These shorts are rockin. They have a sun in the front pocket & a butterfly on the back. I saw them and fell in love.
A wolf tee.  This shirt is just really cool and these kinds of shirts are just necessary in every wardrobe!
Hope you enjoy! Comment below

Steppin' Up

Today I went for a sort of modern Jackie O look. The checkered shirt is something very similar to what she may have worn & the velvet capri's and cutout boots spun it 180 and made it modern. I absolutely love these velvet pants, they are comfy and chic, what more could you ask for? However, they are pants that can be extremely unflattering so if you do find yourself in a similar situation then just be careful! & try to keep good posture; it elongates your body and flatters it and it's just a good habit to stand straight.

Playing in Palazzo's

Palazzo pants are probably the best pants ever. They are great for summer because they are loose so you can breathe and it's not so tight and hot like skinny jeans. However, sometimes they can look like pajamas, no thank you. To prevent that, add staple pieces that clearly indicate them as actual pants, like a belt. Also, most palazzo's have fairly wild patterns so tone it down by wearing a simple top so it's not so busy and distracting-especially if you want to highlight the pants in the outfit.  Don't let the patterns scare you away because that is where neutral tops like black, white and pale pink come in handy and are a staple in the wadrobe.
If you want my opinion, which hopefully you do if you're reading this then invest in some of these God-sent pants, you won't regret it!

Post-Up

Don't you love those outfits where you can just take off one piece and then BAM   you are ready for a great time. I wore this to work with a pale pink Forever 21 blazer to make it work appropriate then afterwards I took it off, showed off the cute little floral embellishment on the neckline & it was ready to go. It's so easy to put an outfit together ready for work and make it work for night time too. Just throw on that one professional piece and then take it off when you're ready to go have some fun.
Today I wore high waisted Forever 21 black denim pants, a thrifted tank with a floral embellishment and thrifted Steve Madden chunky heel booties with cut-outs. Thankfully my hair cooperated and I was able to put it up into a top knot.

Don't You Forget About Me

Today I was vibin with the 80s. Pretty in Pink anyone? I kept it on this side of the century by adding simple shoes (nude flats). The oversized button down was about the length of the dress so the belt added a little structure so it didn't look like I was wearing a sack over a sack. The dress is thrifted, the belt is vintage Dior & the button down was my mom's.

All Aboard

Today consisted of relatively nothing and it was bliss. I fitted myself in a Detroit vs. everybody tee, pinstriped thrifted shorts & black studded creepers. I balanced the very conductor-like vibe of the shorts with a simple teeshirt and cool shoes that really just added that little touch of edge that I love incorporating in my outfits!

Loopholes

Today I was a walking zombie simple to say, but it's Friday so it made it a little better. Thankfully I set out my outfit last night so the brain power needed to put it together was nothing this morning. Setting out an outfit the night before is close to genius.  You can sleep in longer because your clothes are all set out!! Three cheers for loopholes.

Monochromatic

Today as I woke up at crack of dawn (7:40) for work, I was not feeling the whole look nice and try thing but like most working folk I have to look nice everyday.
I was looking through my closet and I picked out this dress for the sole purpose that I had never worn it before and it's hot out so I didn't want to wear pants. For my shoes I just tried on the ones I wore to see how it looked and I thought it looked fine. Then I figured I needed to give the dress some shape so I added a belt. As I checked everything out when I finished getting ready, I realized I inadvertently matched everything  and I liked how it looked.  This was one of the first times I have put together a matched look but I realized, all those mornings that I really really really don't feel like taking to time to pick out an outfit, I can just pick one piece and coordinate color-wise with that. Monochromatic looks can be very chic, especially with black, however you want to avoid being too matchy-matchy. It helped that my dress had a few subtle colors through the print and that my belt had a silver chain which gave a little of edge to it, keeping the look coherent with my personal style.

Too Stressed to Wear Distressed

Holes in clothes was acceptable in the 90's, everyone did it.  These days, people can no longer tell the difference between purposeful grunge holes and accidental "I've had this shirt for years and don't care" holes.  I know, I know, you shouldn't care what people think and stuff but I don't really want anyone to think that I just threw a shirt on and cared so little that I ignored the gaping holes in it, that's not how I roll.
I got this shirt a few years ago from the thrift store, it's a Lucky Brand Janis Joplin shirt and I loved it but when I looked it over I realized it had holes; there was no way I could have let this shirt pass me by so I bought the shirt.  I always struggled to wear this shirt with something and have it look more high fashion so I would tuck it in or knot it to hide the holes even though I loved how the shirt looked on its own.
I threw this shirt on with some simple shorts and Converse but it didn't vibe very well with the look so I decided to add a couple things to fancy it up a bit and make the whole outfit have a purpose.  To accomplish this, I put on some red lipstick and mixed metallic rings, things that still give the grunge look in a tasteful way.
Don't stress rockin' the distressed; all you need is some accessories or great shoes to complete it.

Summer Lovin'

Summertime calls for versatility.  Some days you may go from a friends house to a party or to dinner.  Instead of doing a quick change in the backseat of your car (we've all been there), just wear an outfit fit for multiple occasions or add/remove a piece like a cardigan, jacket or fancier accessories to make it appropriate for the occasion.
Today I dressed up a simple pair of shorts with a sheer floral button down so that no matter what comes up, I will be outfit ready.
