Sunday Funday

I am too excited that the weather is finally clearing up; I have never been more thankful for heat than now.
I spent the day sending off a woman who is becoming a missionary and then  barbecueing with my extended family.  Do you ever stop and look at the people in your life and realize how blessed you are?  No matter what, someone out there loves you and that is such an encouraging thought.  Now that I'm finished being a motivational speaker, here is what I wore today:
a thrifted Coogi striped sun dress a thrifted denim tank top, sunglasses from H&M and Chinese Laundry strappy sandals from  Marshall's.
The back of this dress is basically non-existent which can be challenging and sometimes you just want to have a back to clothing but whatever.  I knew I wouldn't be able to wear it as is but, I also knew I needed this dress; Coogi is too hard to pass up.
Sometimes you may not be able to work with an article of clothing, instead of giving up and having non-buyers remorse, make the piece work for you.  Layer with it, DIY with it, cut it up; the options are endless.  I mean, we all know what it's like waking up in a cold sweat longing for that dress that was just too iffy.  Protect yourself from that pain and embrace the difference, work with the difference.

PROM 2k14

Last night was my senior prom & it was a blast! I wore a BCBG dress and Jeffrey Campbell shoes (featured in Thrift Haul).  For accessories, earrings from Love Culture, ponytail cuff from Urban Outfitters, clutch from Marshall's, Snake Ring from H&M and arm cuff from Payless.  I used a Revlon Colorburst balm stain which literally stayed on until this morning and on my nails I used H&M Sparkle and Shine Baby & Midnight Passion for an alternating maroon and gold manicure.

Toned Down Tuesday

I love Miley Cyrus, yeah she can be a little over the top but she does her and I love that.  She also has amazing style; she is so fearless with what she wears.   I, like many others don't have the confidence, body or closet to pull off exactly what she wears, but one thing I do have is my closet and a love for fashion.  Here we have the re-creation and toned down version of Miley's denim sweatpants outfit.
I chose a longer crop top because frankly I don't have that body and I'm not Miley so it wouldn't really be acceptable for me.  For the pants, I chose a slimmer fit boyfriend jean for a more flattering look.  For shoes I have a pointy-toe pink heel, similar to her white ones.
Here is an outfit still different and edgy but more toned down and wearable.  It's all about thinking outside the box then bringing it back in just a little bit.  Happy Toned Down Tuesday!

Graffiti Backdrop

For days like today...Church, shopping and hanging out listening to Nat King Cole, a casual outfit is required. Not too scrubby & not too fancy, find that happy medium.  Today I wore a thrifted Rook tee with a fabulous, ballin' bear, jeans by Forever 21, platform shoes by BDG from Urban Outfitters and sunnies from Payless.

Flashback Friday

Re-creating vintage looks can be tough, especially men's wear! The key to re-creating is to not take the past outfit too literally.  You may see a really cool vintage outfit but sometimes they just don't work for the present.  Let's look at this outfit of The Fresh Prince himself, great outfit right? Maybe for a guy? No! Girls can rock it too, and here is how:
See how he has the over sized button down, keep that piece but wear it over your overalls and choose short overalls to flatter your body more and add some simple ankle boots and a similar belt to complete the look!
The original look was great but to be honest, acid wash overalls don't always 's work, you just have to find something that does.  With men's wear, consider pieces similar to the original but ones that flatter your body more whether its a cinch of the waist or shortening of the shorts, there is always a way to break out an outfit from the archives of vintage fashion.
