Queen of the Rock

i am not a queen & i felt extremely uncomfortable taking pictures atop a rock.

one thing i have noticed about my school is that people are borderline obsessed with defining who they are based on quizzes and psychological terms. introvert, extrovert, outgoing introvert, IFPG ZXHD... you name it.  this stuff scares me; i know for a fact that an internet test, cannot tell me who i am, no matter who created it.  for some people personality identification helps but for me it wrecks my identity.  people need to exist in self and embrace the natural state of being, rooted in Christ.  when people start relying on letters and words define them, identity becomes generated.  identity is unique and that is the beauty of such a diverse world.  take these tests and if you like what they say embrace it! just don't become confined to what it tells you, you are.  you know & God knows--that's important.

my nice friend, baylee. and a nice view too

today i felt very Julia Roberts in My Best Friends Wedding, 100% thrifted too!~!
i wore a patterned sun dress with an exceedingly large sweater over top, black ankle boots & thick grey socks with silver accessories.
enjoy!

Thankful for Third Man

black Friday is an excuse to go out and buy a bunch of stuff that people think is really cheap but really it's like 10% off.  however, my black Friday was probably more exciting than most because i got to go to the grand opening of Third Man Records Cass Corridor in Detroit. mom and i waited in the rain for 3 hours and it was so, so good because i eventually got in, saw Jack White in the flesh and was able to cop a limited edition poster that is stunning.
to be a part of something so legendary will be a memory i hold special forever.
cherish those little memories because those memories will turn into stories you tell for years.
& when you wait in line for hours STAY IN LINE because if you leave you may never see your favorite artist in your favorite place.

best mom award to the lady in the red shoes

then i hopped in a car to road trip to a random motel in Indiana with some of my favorite ladies to go to a bridal shower.  small town adventures are good too.

Jesus Loving Feminist

the other day i was listening to a podcast, my newest obsession, by Lena Dunham that discusses feminist views and living life as a woman.  this particular episode was on body image and it was a great listen; however, as i was listening to the women of different backgrounds, from a transgender to a blind woman, speaking on the show i thought to myself, "where's the christian woman?"  so much of what was said on the podcast was encouraging, inspiring and could appeal greatly to all women facing different challenges with their body image but there was no one representing a Christian world view.  my heart broke for young girls today because they don't get to see a woman in popular culture saying it's ok to keep your virginity sacred, that you don't have to experiment with your sexual identity to be confident  and you don't have to mess with drugs and alcohol to find your true self.  all voices need to be heard but sometimes you have to scream for people to notice and it looks like us Jesus loving feminists need to stand on mountains and atop builidngs for people to hear us and appreciate what we have to say.

so let me say...

be who you are, be independent, be strong-willed, break boundaries, change the world and love Jesus

i am a feminist and i love Jesus
i will fight for equality, i will embrace independence and i will celebrate my femininity all with Jesus Christ directing my steps

now on a different note
today i wore a "found" grey turtleneck with a thrifted denim button-up over top, black Forever 21 trousers and Vera Wang booties
accessorized with gold, baby hoops and a leopard print gold watch

Life

i'd much rather pull an all-nighter and go on mini road trips to a cute coffee shop with good music than be studious, study and go to bed early.  i found this guy, Sam Burchfield, on my Spotify Discover playlist then realized he was going to play about an hour away from school so i was like hey what the heck...LET'S DO IT.  his voice was full of soul and the band was banging.  now i find myself at 2:07 in the morning listening to a documentary and blogging because, well, college.
but i wouldn't want to do life any other way.
"the three grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for." -- Alexander Chalmers

today i wore a hand-me-down Forever 21 sweater, borrowed ripped American Eagle jeans and on-sale Gap sandals.and the half up, half down bun never fails.

Friday Eve

Henry David Thoreau is my favorite writer ever.  i started reading him in a class this week and he has such beautiful and elegant language.  if you ever get a chance to read his compilation of essays, Walden, DO IT you will be pleased.  reading is a lot better than you think it is.
"nay, be a Columbus to whole new continents and worlds within you, opening new channels, not of trade, but of thought."
challenge your mind and live life
i love wearing dresses, because they're so stylish yeah? no, well they are but it's because they're the most freeing thing you can wear. freedom=dresses
happy friday eve

yeah we're breakin' free

self expression is necessary. sometimes that means breaking down the walls of your comfort zone to let the world know who you really are and what you are made of.
i express myself through clothes and today i went a little out of my zone. i was nervous at first which may seem dumb because it's just clothes right? WRONG at least to me. clothes are my identity in a completely normal and healthy way and trying something new is scary and exciting.  so do that scary thing you love
break free (HSM anyone) of who you "should" be and just be
make your own standards and embrace your beuatiful mind and all of its different passions
(but stay pure and love God in what you do--always)

& when the seasons change

fall is approaching (sort of) and that brings so many beautiful things.  i'm not talking about pumpkin spice nonsense because that's gross, i'm just talking about the season itself.  fall is a season of change and creativity.  isn't it wild that nature can be so creative?  the leaves change, the weather changes, a new school year brings changing adventures (and stress) but most importantly the clothes change!!!!! if leaves can get creative and change what they look like then so can we.

since today yielded a very little chill i decided to break out layering.  i coupled a gray dress featured in Now I've Had the Time of My Life and a loose black American Eagle top.  i also layered down low by pulling out the ever popular books and socks trend with Vera Wang boots and simple black socks.

piling clothes on is one of my favorite things, the more the merrier.  so let's layer it up and embrace this season of beautiful change.

hope you enjoy!

if i was your boyfriend

first
time
ever
wearing
boyfriend
jeans
life is exciting huh? i found these pants on the free shelf at school and today was my first time wearing them.  hoorah! they are vintage Tommy Hilfiger jeans rolled a few times, and paired along is a Juicy Couture tank and a pair of Birkenstocks.  proud to say everything i am wearing is 100% second hand and therefore cost me approximately $10.  hot dang what a steal.

ps. don't let the intimidation of "professionals" scare you away from pursuing what you love. zealousness can be far more powerful than knowledge.
i can thank my actual boyfriend, not just my pants, for this little reminder.

happy sunday

summer, it's good to see you again

summer has officially begun! i'm home, almost (not really) unpacked and ready to embark on the adventures that summer has to offer.  i'm looking forward to some much needed family time, friend time & me time!  i have already gotten in some solid thrifting, have had some time catching up with old friends and have relished in the joy of having no responsibilies.  three whole months of nothing--what a glorious occasion.  i can't wait to do more, see more and accomplish more during this much needed break.

today, i wore a thrifted sun dress, Birkenstocks and a Charlotte Russe sweater with crocheted details. a simple & summery (alliteration) look for a nice day of coffee and conversation (alliteration x2) and high school baseball.
so good to be home

enjoy

friday-yay

friday' are a glorious occasion--especially since school is winding down to an end.  it's almost summer time, cue High School Musical 2.

for those of you still in school, grasp on to your last drops of sanity and finish strong.  you've made it this far.  take heart my friends
we.can.do.this

today i wore a pair of velvet cropped pants, a white crop top and silver Gap flats.  lots of funky texture going on in this look & i love it.  i must say though, i am in DESPERATE need for a thrifting spree because it has been a while.  college budget probs.  definitely on the to-do list for the summer.
this summer will be a summer of lists: reading lists, bucket lists, shopping lists, to-do lists. lists make the world go 'round.

luv your earthly dwelling

EARTH DAY
to be honest i didn't do anything special today but that's ok.  i love the earth so much, it is beautiful beyond words and was breathed into creation by our amazing God.  here's a fun thought to dwell on: the power that God has, the power that He used to create the earth, is inside of us because of the Holy Spirit.  we have the power of the creator inside of us, the question is what are we going to do with it?

i hope you all were more hippie than i was today, maybe take a fast and cold shower, or planting a tree.
good stuff like that.
just remember that we are privileged to reside on this planet that operates perfectly without our thinking.  every sunrise and sunset is different...every single day we are amazed by what is around us.  don't take that for granted, cherish this beautiful place.

today i shot in the woods because earth day!  we found this cool little side road/walking path in a neighborhood and had some fun.  i wore a tank jean shirt, black pants and brown lace-up boots.  i accessorized with a few necklaces, one being a great choker i found at a thrift store back home.

enjoy

chill bro

three weeks and counting until freedom.  summer is calling my name and i can't wait to respond to it. finals are peeking their nasty little heads around the corner and i am so not in the mood for that stress, nevertheless they are coming whether i like it or not.  today was a great day to relieve that stress by sleeping in super late, seeing a sappy movie, trying to catch a cat and exploring with some of my best pals.  sometimes a quiet saturday with your closest people is the best medicine.

i wore red BDG high-waisted shorts, a gray open-back tee from Forever 21 and brown sandals from TJ Maxx.  perfect outfit for those weird it's hot out but kind of chilly days.
soak in the beautiful scenery that is north georgia.

enjoy
